WHAT IS THE FAULT OF MILITARY TOURISM
2024
performance
eproduced during KAIR and Budapest Gallery AIR
There's a kids' inflatable raft in the shape of the Ukrainian warship Slavutych, which hosted the Alchemic Surrender exhibition. Sevastopol, the base of the Black Sea Fleet, is also one of Crimea's most popular seaside holiday destinations. The military machine of the Black Sea Fleet, stripped of its menace, became an attractive backdrop for souvenir photos. The relationship between capitalism and tourism, the military-industrial complex, and art was embodied in one object, a sculpture, a functional piece, and a military decoy at the same time. The raft demands constant inflation and careful handling to preserve its form and avoid a sudden burst, symbolically recreating the state of a nation at war.
