WRECKAGE II

Photographic evidence of weapon fragments, taken by employees of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, coincidentally replicates the compositional logic of a museum display. The images “museify” both the remnants of missiles themselves and the labor of workers within Russia’s defense industry - from the assembly line to the engineer’s desk. The tool of labor transforms into a tool of killing, merging into a single artifact. Built around this resemblance, earlier works from the 2019 series of the same name speak of historical mimicry through another medium. Naturalistic sketches of early tools from the collection of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine address these archaeological remnants as one of the central protagonists of the historiographic narrative, the wheel of history.
