VORONKA

The series of paintings operates on the principle of a pop-art collage - combining precise reproductions of elements from Otto Dix’s works, Hario coffee drippers, and a Japanese technique used in manga production, where a thin layer of adhesive film (screentone) is applied as texture, background, or shadow. At its core, the series reflects on the depiction of war in art and the distance between reality and its echoed image. The simple play on the form and ukrainian word "воронка" ("funnel") - both as a coffee dripper and as a wartime crater left by an explosion - appears almost absurd. Yet, the work forms part of the artist’s broader contemplation of wartime everyday life and the prosaic act of drinking coffee, both distant and complete, including in its historical dimensions.
